Why I Support Broadway Cares

Above: A video from Broadway Cares featuring actors asking their audience to vote this November

What is Broadway Cares? Until I started seeing shows on a semi-regular basis, all I knew was that people stood in lobbies with red buckets, which I would drop a few dollars into. But Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (also known as BC/EFA) is on an amazing mission, that starts with those red buckets.

Each year, they have several collection periods and hold other events to help raise money. Some of those events are the Broadway Flea Market and Broadway Backwards. Through their events and collection periods, they aim to help men, women, and children across the country and on the street receive life saving medical care and more. They also support those within the entertainment industry both who are affected by HIV/AIDS and those who are not.

Many people in the theater community rally around Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS in support of millions of people. I chose to support them because I believe in the work they are doing, and it makes a genuine impact on the community.

You can start supporting BC/EFA by coming to the Broadway Flea Market and Grand Auction on Sunday, September 30th. Not only is it fun for Broadway collectors, but you support an amazing cause and make a difference. I know I'll be there.
