Last week, I had the opportunity to see Julian Fleisher perform at Spiegeltent on the Bard campus. Talented, funny, and a shining light on stage, Fleisher and his rather big band seamlessly take popular songs and masterfully interpret them in fun and energetic ways.
Sun Songs featured "sets of songs that celebrate the sun, colors, nature, animals, and the healing power of songs sung sweetly together". It succeeded in every sense, with the audience singing and dancing along when asked, with some audience members even wowing every in the tent with their talent.
Fleisher is a character on stage, dazzling in a silver suit that ensures you won't look away. Suit or not, he is a performer in every sense of the word and knows exactly how to entertain a crowd with his wonderful voice and great material.
His Rather Large Band is incredible. Towards the end of the night he took the time to talk about every band member, and each of them did a phenomenal job. It's always wonderful to see talented singers and musicians together producing such great music.
If you have the chance to see Julian Fleisher, do! Upcoming dates can be found on his website and here you can find out when he'll be at Joe's Pub at the Public.
