Review: Home for the Holidays

What do you get when you mix Christmas and singing competitions? Home for the Holidays: Live on Broadway. Featuring winners of The Voice (Josh Kauffman), America’s Got Talent (Bianca Ryan), and American Idol (Candice Glover), it is a lovely concert full of classic Christmas songs and some updated arrangements.

Also on the stage “YouTube Sensations” Peter and Evynne Hollens, a former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe, and Danny Aiello.

Bristowe introduces each number and joins the group in singing for a few numbers. Peter and Evynne Hollens largely sing backup for Glover, Kauffman, and Ryan but take center stage at times, bringing their lovely voices to the mix in the best way possible. Aiello shares stories of his Christmases when he was younger in several touching moments. Of the three winners, Candice Glover’s voice is one of the most incredible I’ve ever heard. Both Bianca Ryan and Josh Kauffman sing a variety of styles as well, and hearing the three sing together is wonderful as well.

One thing that struck me however was not on the stage but in the audience. The theater was nowhere near full, granted the day I went was a Sunday afternoon, but you might think a holiday concert would be more appealing. The other thing that stuck out at me was that while it is called Home for the Holidays it only covers Christmas.

If you love the Christmas season, this is a perfect outing for you where you certainly won’t be bored. It’s enjoyable, happy, and very Christmasy.
