Interview with Rebecca Faulkenberry of Groundhog Day

After seeing Groundhog Day, I had the chance to interview Rebecca Faulkenberry who plays Nancy Taylor in the show. Rebecca made her Broadway debut as a Sherrie replacement in Rock of Ages for several months in 2011 before going on to play Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark starting in 2011, and continuing all the way until the show's closing in 2014. Now as previously mentioned she plays Nancy in Groundhog Day, a character who Phil (Andy Karl) tricks into sleeping with him. When the second act opens, she reflects on how she acts and how she presents herself in the beautiful song "Playing Nancy".

I first asked what the best part about being in Groundhog Day is. She said it's not just being on Broadway but being able to create a role as in the other shows she has done she's been a replacement. Also, getting to be on an original cast recording. She said she's worked really hard to get to this point and is living her dream.

When I asked what her favorite role she's played is, she said that each of them have given her something the others didn't have. While Sherrie from Rock of Ages is up there, she's always looking forward to the next thing and hopefully to originating roles.

The last thing I wanted to know was if she had a dream role on Broadway. While Sally Bowles in Cabaret and Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady are up there, she told me she hadn't sung anything from classic musicals in a while, and is always really hoping to originate more roles.
